Cosmic Owl Gold Silver & Bronze Rural life hadn’t changed much

Rural life hadn’t changed much up until the Great War and comely young milk maids were a popular inspiration for many of the leading painters of the day

it’s a simple composition but a complicated painting with a lot of detail to take in

A very different portrait to much of his public work

Painted with oil and finished with soft pencil on red cloth book covers & UV protective museum glass

and the light is masterly

Cosmic Owl Gold Silver & Bronze Rural life hadn’t changed muchIn our Cecil Court gallery In this piece the owl has become a sort of tribal costume but with a life of its own: Remaining standing long after its owner has departed. Ive incised the nebula like swirling colours of the mixed clays in the base with planetary motifs.
